“Ask the books I’ve read why I have changed.”
This quote, from the Indian poet Kamala Das, has inspired me from the moment I joined the Blue Met team. I should say “the Blue Met family,” because it really is an enormous family of passionate booklovers. People just like you. Today, we’re unveiling the Festival’s spring program, the literary rendezvous you’ve come to expect with the return of fine weather.
Because of the pandemic, and because our programming is mainly international in scope, we’ve decided to present our events online. It would have given us tremendous joy to see you all in person à l’Hôtel 10. But attendance would have been drastically reduced due to current health measures.
But never mind all that, we have more than 50 new events scheduled for April 24 – May 2. After May 20, when warm weather finally sets in, there will be 6 literary walks to discover.
Festive Weekends at the 2020-2021 TD-Blue Metropolis Children’s Festival
For parents, grandparents and their little ones, we’re offering online meetings with 10 authors on Facebook Live. These readings enrich an already incredible selection that has been broadcast since last September.
All in all, the Blue Met “in Covid mode” has brought booklovers more than 100 activities with writers, artists and guests.
My thanks to the Blue Met’s financial partners without whose support this digital adventure would not have been possible. I also want to thank our staff for their hard work and resilience.
I look forward to seeing you all in person in the near future. In the meantime, long live literature!
