« Ask the books that I read why I changed. »
This quotation from the East Indian poet Kamala Das has inspired me ever since I first joined the Blue Metropolis team. I should say “the Blue Metropolis family”, since it’s a very large family made up of people who love literature, and one to which you belong.
We are opening a window here onto the Festival and the Foundation, and what you will see through this window should pique your curiosity and make you want to join us in celebrating the power of words.
The Festival, if you’re not already familiar with it, is “resolutely literary and distinctly engaged”. It takes an interest in major social issues and allows the authors and thinkers who provide us with food for thought to dream and, hopefully, help us become wiser through reading their books. At the very least they help us make sense of the world, to understand it better, and above all, see it as it is, so that we can then imagine a better world (if we all put our minds to it).
Thanks to the entire Blue Metropolis team, to the members of the board of directors of Blue Metropolis Foundation, to our many financial partners and to our volunteers. Please have a look at the blogs by our contributors, which we update regularly.
And, of course, I invite you to join us May 1 to 6 for the Festival. Until then…
… Enjoy reading!
