QUEBEC ROOTS : STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES
2021 EDITION
The 2022 edition of Quebec Roots is coming! Since 2000, Blue Metropolis has reached 19,138 students in 928 schools and offered 59 different educational programs, all dedicated to reading and writing. Quebec Roots has been the flagship initiative of this educational programming, and we’re thrilled about the latest developments and improved offering this program has in store in 2022.
To mark this latest offering of the program and the return of in-person formats and enhanced collaborative and digital contents, we felt an urge to take a look back at our last in-person edition of Quebec Roots, then our most ambitious yet!

In 2019-2020, Quebec Roots strove for something special.
Of course, we brought back our longstanding, beloved “Strenghtening the communities” mainstay, working with 6 classes in 6 English-speaking schools to provide writing and photography mentorship to young students. Indirectly addressing important issues linked to the development of young adults, particularly with at-risk youth in mind, our mentors fostered an open space for their student’s emerging self-expression, better intercultural exchange, and critical encounters of their values. Together, mentors and mentees were able to work toward an ambitious body of work, with Quebec Roots producing another exiting physical and digital book to showcase students’ creations.

But with this edition of the program we also worked to begin extending its reach, with new initiatives in two remote regions. Quebec Roots worked with local community artists in these areas, providing them with training as workshop leaders and empowering them to bring the program’s mentorship experience to local schools. With the success of this ambitious new development and the launch of Quebec Roots’s new digital platform, we are excited to continue growing Quebec Roots’s contribution to English-language educational programming in remote areas.
And finally, the 2019-20 edition marked 10 years of Quebec Roots in Nunavik! We celebrated 15 years of Quebec Roots and a decade of workshops in this northern Indigenous community with an anthology of work to come out of it along the way, a cherished reminder of the important impacts of this program. And with plenty smore to come!
