ABOUT Aliya

Aliya Bartmon interns as a storytelling facilitation assistant for the Youth Festival. Currently living in Montreal to complete her post-secondary studies at Concordia University, she expects to receive her bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Psychology this fall. Aliya’s enthusiasm with children’s literature starts with her own journey as a young girl discovering the value and excitement that stories can create for individuals. Born and raised in the United States, Aliya fully appreciates the linguistic diversity, multi-culturalism, and “joie de vivre” Montreal offers and has taken the opportunity to incorporate these experiences from being involved in various communities within the city to her approach in creating a reading list towards increasing the appetite for reading and reflection in children; which highlights children’s literature which celebrates both the individuality of all of us and the shared connections we are able to find as well.
This internship has been made possible thanks to our partner Beat the Odds.
