Whether you’re interested in defending free speech or promoting academic perseverance, or if you’re just plain curious, there will be no holds barred at our “Forbidden” benefit cocktail event!Women in leadership, engaged and passionate about literature, invite you to join them at HOTEL 10 on Friday, May 1, 2020, at 5 p.m., for a benefit cocktail event that will get people talking. These impressive women, transformed for one night into readers, will regale you with a selection of short excerpts from works that were once outlawed, or which continue to perturb, or are considered outright scandalous!On the program, authors who have been persecuted, banned, marginalized or misunderstood. Dare to delve into the sensuous poems of Baudelaire’s Flowers of Evil. Experience the raw prose of Charles Bukowski, and passionate love scenes from Lady Chatterley’s Lover, by D.H. Lawrence. From the depths of the Gulag, speak out against the arbitrary acts of violence, along with Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Not to mention many other highs and lows that await you. Hors d’oeuvres, select wines and risky writing…
THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS COCKTAIL EVENT WILL GO TOWARDS SUPPORTING LITERARY ACTIVITIES DOR CHILDREN FROM DISADVANTAGED AREAS OF MONTREAL, AS WELL AS TO CARY OUT EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS PROMOTING ACADEMIC PERSEVERANCE AND SOCIAL INCLUSION.
