CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY
Established in 1997, the Blue Metropolis Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that brings together people from different cultures to share in the pleasures of reading and writing, encouraging greater creativity and enabling deeper intercultural understanding.
The Foundation produces an annual International Literary Festival and offers a wide range of educational and social programs year-round, both in classrooms and online. These programs use reading and writing as therapeutic tools, to bolster academic resilience, and to fight poverty and exclusion.
PERSONNAL INFORMATION COLLECTION
In light of the development of new communication tools, it is particularly important to ensure the protection of users’ rights to privacy. With that mission in mind, we assert our commitment to protecting the personal information we collect.
To that effect, the Foundation and third-party organizations it partners with only collect the personal information required for its activities. The information we collect is used for the following:
– Issuing tax receipts and letters of thanks for your donations
– Responding to your information requests
– Confirming your activity registrations or ticket purchases
– Sending our newsletters and donation solicitation emails
– Obtaining statistical information regarding our communication and marketing efforts
The personal information required for these activities is gathered via forms and your interactions with our website and social media accounts.

We collect certain kinds of information via our website log files and cookies. These mainly include the following:

Our access to such files enables us to:

None of the information collected will be commercialized.

right to give, deny and withdraw access
We agree to provide for the right to deny or to withdraw your consent to sharing your personal information. The right to deny access speaks to providing our internet visitors, festivalgoers and subscribers with the option to refuse that their personal information be used for the purposes mentioned upon collection of said information (see the “Personal Information Collection” section). The right to withdraw acess speaks to the option to request that one’s personal information no longer appear on, for instance, a mailing list.

COMMUNICATING a confidentiality incident
It is possible to communicate a confidentiality incident, which is to say an unauthorized access, use, communication or loss of personal information, as well as any other compromising of its protection. DATA retention period
Where applicable, the data collected via forms will be retained on our servers indefinitely. Access to our physical servers is restricted to the people who are authorized to access them. We agree to recognize the rights to access and rectification of concerned parties who wish to consult, modify, or delete the information that concerns them. Note that newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe at any time.
Security measures
Personal information we collect is retained in a secure location. Blue Metropolis Foundation personnel are bound to respect the confidentiality of your information. We are committed to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality by integrating the latest technological innovations to ensure the confidentiality of your transactions.
LEGISLATION
We agree to respect the legislative provisions of the Canada Revenue Agency.
We agree to respect the legislative provisions outlined in provincial and federal legislation regarding the protection of personal information.
We agree to:
– Deploy all reasonable measures to minimize the risk of prejudice and to prevent the occurrence of any new incidents of a similar nature where we have reasons to believe an incident concerning the confidentiality of personal information has taken place;
– Advise the Commission d’accès à l’information and all parties whose personal information was involved in the incident where the incident in question represents a serious prejudice for the parties concerned.
Additionally, all confidentiality incidents are recorded in a registry.
