Focus on yes, on the woman’s eyelids
Caress not silence, not word
Focus beyond. Hold me back.
Nicole Brossard “Smooth Horizon of the Verb Love” from Selections
The 20th edition of the Blue Metropolis Festival introduces for the first time the ‘Prix Violet’, which will be a prize awarded to a writer from the LGBTQ community. For the very first edition, the laureate is Nicole Brossard, a Quebecoise avant-garde poet, novelist and essayist from Montreal. She published more than 30 poetry collections and novels, in particular Notebook of Roses and Civilization (2006) and Installations (1989), who were both shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize. Brossard also won two awards for her poetry by the Governor General, amongst other prizes for her novels and selections of poetry. Throughout her poetry and her novels, Brossard explore femininity and feminism, desire and redefines the structures and properties of language.
To celebrate Nicole Brossard’s entire body of work, the ‘Prix Violet’ will be given to her on April 26 and an on-stage interview with the author will follow the award ceremony. Due to the generosity of Air Canada, the laureate will receive 5000$ which accompanies the prize. The Blue Metropolis Festival also proposes a new series of activity, under the Metropolis Violet category, which gathers literary events linked to an LGBTQ theme.
