STUDENT LITERARY PROGRAMME

STUDENT LITERARY PROGRAMME

The Student Literary Programme offers creative writing workshops with distinguished authors at the Blue Metropolis Festival.

Partners: MELS, Guy Tiphane Foundation

Description

Secondary school students will meet professional writers and work on their own creative writing with them

Part I: Introduction and discussion

The author shares his experience as a writer and reader. He or she reads excerpts from his or her work. Students ask questions about being a writer and the process of writing.

Part II: Writing workshop

The author explores a literary genre, a writing activity or a specific theme with the students. Students will then share their texts with classmates and the author. The author guides students individually or in groups.

When

During the 13th Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival from April 27 to May 1, 2011.

Schedule and programming to come...

Where

At the Holiday Inn Select Hotel, at 99 avenue Viger West, Place-d'Armes metro.

 Cost

$15 per student for each half-day session. Students can register for a minimum of one session (half-day) and a maximum of 5 sessions (two and a half-days).

Free for teachers accompanying their students.

 Suggestion

Teachers should register small groups of students (8 to 15) in order for the activity to be enriching. Teachers who register bigger groups must accept that students will be divided into two groups.

Past Editions

Since its launch in 2000, almost 120 writers and more than 5,000 students have participated in the Blue Metropolis Student Literary Program. We appreciate the support of the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (DGFJ), Réseau des bibliothèques publiques de Montréal, ATEQ and AQPF.

In the words of past participants...
"This workshop opened my eyes to what I'm able to do and it encouraged me to write."

"The workshop was great! I am so excited to have come here! I had no idea such a festival existed! In the future I would like to attend more workshops."

"This workshop was riveting and opened my eyes to a type of poetry that I had never experienced before."
