Blue Metropolis Foundation is a Montreal-based non-profit organization dedicated to bringing people from different cultures together to share the pleasures of reading and writing. It organizes innovative activities that give diverse audiences direct access to various modes of literary expression of the highest calibre.
Since its founding in June 1997, Blue Metropolis Foundation has stayed focused on the things that have made it successful and unique: its broad range of novel activities and initiatives that combine artistic excellence with accessibility in order to bring literature to new audiences. The Foundation also promotes the sharing of artistic experiences between writers and readers, and among writers. Its events provide unique opportunities for new interactions between communities of different languages and diverse cultures. We put people together who would normally never meet. And we stimulate an excitement about reading, writing and thinking - and the world we all share.
The Foundation's activities are grouped under three headings:
■ Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival
The Festival is our best-known activity. It is a multilingual event, held in French, English, Spanish, and other languages, and it attracts the biggest names in world literature.
■ Educational Programmes
Educational Programmes have become our fastest-growing activity. We are now working with French and English schools across Canada, including Cree and Inuit schools in the North, and Mohawk schools in the Montreal area.
■ Literacy and the Literary
Activities and events that bring together readers of all levels and from all backgrounds with writers working in many fields, including storytellers, cartoonists, and songwriters.
Blue Met plays a unique role in the cultural life of Montreal, Quebec and Canada. In this section, you will find information on the Foundation's history, mission, staff, and leadership. You can also download our Annual Report.
