Blue Metropolis Foundation is a Montreal-based non-profit organization dedicated to bringing people from different cultures together to share the pleasure of reading and writing. It organizes innovative activities that give diverse audiences direct access to various modes of literary expression of the highest calibre.
Since it was founded in June 1997, Blue Metropolis Foundation has stayed focused on the things that have made it successful and unique: its broad range of novel activities and initiatives that combine artistic excellence with accessibility in order to bring literature to new audiences. The Foundation also promotes the sharing of artistic experiences between writers and readers, and among writers. Its events provide unique opportunities for new interactions between communities of different languages and diverse cultures.
The Foundation organizes three sets of activities. (See the section devoted to each on this site for a full description.)
■ Literacy and the Literary
A growing number of activities and events that bring together readers of all levels and from all backgrounds with writers working in many fields, including storytellers, cartoonists, and songwriters.
■ Educational Programmes
Educational Programmes have become the Foundation's main activity. We are now working with English and French language schools in four Canadian provinces, including Cree and Inuit schools in the North, and Mohawk schools in the Montreal area.
■ Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival
The Festival is the Foundation's best-known activity. It is a multilingual event, held in French, English, Spanish, and other languages, and attracts the biggest names in world literature.
Blue Met plays a unique role in the cultural life of Montreal, Quebec and indeed Canada.
